ORGANIZATIONS WE'VE WORKED WITH

Consulting Services

Wanu's approach is grounded in 15 years of experience in the public and private sectors, 5 years working alongside composting operations teams, over 120 site visits to small and large composting operations, and involved in over 60 composting projects.

Strategic Planning

You know you need to move forward but the regulatory, financial, and technical pieces aren't lining up yet. Wanu helps clients cut through the noise, evaluate real options, and define a path forward that actually holds up.

Technical Due Diligence

Before you invest or acquire, you need someone independent who knows what to look for. Wanu provides third-party technical review of composting operations, including site visits, operational data review, and risk assessment, so you can make informed decisions.

Operations & Site Design

Wanu designs composting operations that align with client goals, regulatory requirements, and real-world operational needs. Services range from process flow and equipment evaluation to full site layout for new facilities, expansions, and operational improvements. Can also guide or manage permitting depending on what your project requires.

Staff Trainings

Your team knows the day-to-day but needs sharper fundamentals or deeper technical skills. Wanu delivers in-person or virtual training for operators, engineers, and managers built on a track record of training hundreds of professionals across the country.

Wanu works across sectors. Examples of projects: feasibility analysis and pro formas for municipal composting facilities, facility design and permitting for private operators, technical due diligence for an investor evaluating a multi-site acquisition, and composting business and operations planning in partnership with tribal communities.

About

Wanu Organics is a consulting firm focused exclusively on organics recycling and composting infrastructure and led by Jorge Montezuma. Before Wanu, he led the engineering team at Atlas Organics (recently acquired by Circular Services), overseeing design, permitting, compliance, and technical services for 13 composting operations across 7 states. He's also worked for Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, NC DEQ, Smith Gardner engineers, Peace Corps, and was an AmeriCorps volunteer. Jorge has been very active in the industry through the US Composting Council and state chapters and is constantly thinking about ways to improve the industry and divert material from the landfill.

What does Wanu mean?

Jorge is from Peru, where one of the indigenous language spoken is Quechua. "Wanu" is the Quechua word for guano, nutrient-rich seabird excrement. It is harvested from islands off the coast of Peru and transformed agriculture around the world in the 19th century. Wanu connects Jorge to where he comes from and reminds him daily of the immense value waste can have.
